Anti-Atlas, Morocco

The rock climbing, mountaineering and walking/scrambling in the Anti Atlas mountains is extensive, adventurous and varied. Low level Granite crags in and around Tafraoute feel exciting but are very accessible and are located in a desert like environment. This low lying Granite bowl is surrounded by higher ground and a network of valleys provides almost endless adventures with routes ranging from 25 Metre  to 800 Metre multi pitch adventures, all on Quartzite rock. Most of the climbing in the Anti Atlas range is Trad climbing of the adventurous variety so it's not ideal for absolute beginners. There are some very accessible single pitch crags, but where Morocco excels is adventurous multi pitch climbing. There are also quite a few bolted single/multi pitch routes on the Granite crags in and around Tafraoute from single pitch up to 5 pitches with some very amenable grades and high quality climbing. Crag approaches/descents range from 5 minutes walk from the car and an easy scramble down to a 90 minute approach and descents of varying degrees of difficulty a few of which involve an abseil.

Client Reviews

Morocco and Andy... A wonderful place and great guide! I spent two weeks in the anti-Atlas on some epic multi-pitches and grippy granite enjoying some of the best climbs of my career. Morocco is a great place and staying in both the local town and in more rustic setting nearer to the crags provided an authentic taste of local life. The people are so friendly. Andy knows the terrain well and was excellent at pitching the level of challenge just right.
